Golden Retriever Lymphoma
I think my dog has lymphoma?
Today I went with my dad to the vet to see what the lumps were on my dogs neck. My dog is a 9 year old Golden Retriever. He got blood taken and they tested the blood and everything was okay. Drew(the vet) said that maybe it could be Lyme disease, or something else, but it wasn’t. The blood test was okay. He said that there is an 80-90% chance he could have lymphoma :’( We get the test results on Wednesday.
He said that chemo is an option if he does, indeed, have lymphoma. What is chemo like for a dog? Will he be miserable? I hate thinking about my dog who is lying downstairs right now and he might have cancer. Please if you can help me, I would highly appreciate it. Thanks.
My dog was diagnosed with Lymphoma in January. I’m sorry that you might go through this. We did chemo for a while until we found out it was T-Cell Lymphoma, which means chemo wouldn’t help. When we were going through the chemo it didn’t effect my dog too much. She was her normal self except that we went to the vet every other week for her chemo dose.
I really am so sorry. If it does turn out to be lymphoma know that it’s a relatively painless disease for them. If it’s B-Cell, chemo has a great shot in prolonging his life. If it’s T-Cell, like my dog’s, just do the best for him in the time he has left. Feel free to contact me again if you find out it is chemo. Hang in there okay? Hugs.
